For Luau on Friday evening, laid back and comfy attire is recommended.
For the wedding, we recommend "Island Formal". Friends, do not be intimidated by the word "formal" - it just means that you are not encouraged to wear jeans. For ladies, good examples of island formal attires are light, floral summer dresses. For gentlemen, that means summer suits, sports coat, and long sleeves shirts will do just fine. Ties are not required. We'd love to see colors - try to wear something other than black and white! After all, you are in Hawaii! :)
The temperature usually ranges from 70 to 85 F (20-29C) through out the day. Our wedding venue, Haiku Mill, may experience temporary showers in the evening from time to time. The venue has paved paths, stone flooring and big lawns. Ladies can manage in high heels, though there will definitely be some uneven floor surface that you should watch out for. You may find heel protectors come in handy if you do not want to aerate the lawns. :)
Also, since you are on a tropical island, it's hard to avoid mosquitoes. Worry not, we will prepare mosquitoes spray and some herb ointment to ease mosquito bites on the site.
Your presence at our wedding is our best gift. We DO NOT have a gift registry set up anywhere. Do not split your hair trying to find one; just come and enjoy the party! If you insist, just take us out for coffee when you see us next time.
The luau party will be starting from 5:45pm so please plan enough time to get to the Old Lahaina Luau restaurant. Since Old Lahaina Luau will be hosting other guests at the same time, you will be checking in with the assigned staff for Catherine & Sammy's party.
The venue has a small parking lot which may be filled quickly. Once it's full, the best option is to park your vehicle at the Cannery Mall nearby. Free parking.
Upon sunset, the evening’s main entertainment begins. Old Lahaina Luau will present a series of performance to tell the story of the Hawaiians. It will begin with the history of the Polynesian migration, then to the ancient Hawaiian Hula, followed by the evolution to a more contemporary style Hula. The performance will last about an hour, and guests may gather as the kalua pig is unearthed from the "Imu", our traditional Hawaiian underground oven.
The dinner feast is served in a buffet style with various dishes of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, fruit and desserts. An open bar will serve you throughout the evening. Tip: go get drinks at bar early to avoid the line.
The event will conclude at around 8:45pm. The venue is in the heart of Lahaina, the largest town on the island so welcome to take this opportunity to stroll in the town and enjoy the night life island style!
The wedding will be held at Haiku Mill, a decommissioned sugar mill located in the northern part of the island. It is NOT by the beach. Imagine a beautiful garden on the hill. :) Since there's no parking available, we have arranged the shuttle for you. Please be punctual to meet at your designated shuttle pick-up point. The ceremony will start at 4pm.
Oh yes there will be food and drinks! Our main missions is to make you stuffed! There will be an open bar and four-course dinner among many other things. One thing to keep in mind is that the property has a "no shot policy". We promise that you will still enjoy the bar very much without shots!
Of course we will have dancing! We have arranged for a DJ that will help you show off your best move. Feel free to request DJ Chris your favorite songs during the dancing hours!
You are welcome to take as many pictures as you want!! We will very much appreciate if you can share your photos with us. If you Instagram, please hashtag #catandsammy. What happens in Maui doesn't have to stay in Maui. Please note that the property does not allow the use of aerial drone for safety reason.
Reluctantly, we have to conclude the party at 10pm as Maui County has a noise ordinance of 10pm. This means all music of any kind must end at 10pm. The shuttles will be announced and ready to take you back to the pickup points. Please take the same assigned shuttle.
We will stay on the island till the evening of October 3, and we are staying at Fairmont in Wailea. Let us know if you'd like to hang out!
